First impressions in real estate are now made on the internet, and if the photographs aren't flattering they turn into last impressions...
Statistics* indicate most people looking to buy real estate begin the process by doing online searches for available properties, viewing the information posted and looking at the photographs. During this phase in the buying process they are narrowing the field based on price, location, amenities and appearance. Photographs play a key role in the process- better photographs will result in more showings and more SALES.
For the past ten years I have been the photographer at Russian River Getaways, a rental business devoted exclusively to vacation homes, and during that time the gross rentals increased from less than $100K to well over $2M. Credit for much of that success was due to the growth of the internet and excellent online presence. The strategy I developed for the Getaways website was to provide a set of photographs that show the property at its best without being in any way mis-leading, and always taking a little extra time to find the right angles and time of day for shooting the location..
The fact is that not every home is a glamorous estate with manicured lawns and beautifully tended gardens- those homes are easy to shoot. But each home does have a unique charm of its own. My skill is to find the often hidden charm of the homes and bring it out, which for realtors can mean the difference between being competitive online and people clicking through to other realtor's homes and website.
